Canada Post Day of Action

January, 23 2014

On Dec. 11 2013, Canada Post announced that it planned to phase out door-to-door mail delivery in urban centres over a five-year period, and to increase the cost of stamps to $1.00, in order to save Canada Post from deficit.

On January 27th, when Parliament reconvenes, let's tell the Conservative government and Canada Post's bosses that door-to-door delivery connects our communities and is worth protecting. Let's stand together to save good, working-class jobs and Stop the Attack on all Public Services. Canada Post's recent announcement that they are ending door-to-door delivery and eliminating 6000-8000 jobs shocked residents across the country. No country in the world has eliminated door-to-door delivery and we will not be the first to do so. Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra was asked about the implications of cutting home mail delivery for elders, and his response was that the elderly needed exercise. This is coming from a man who makes over $500,000 a year.

CUPW Local 30 invites PEI UPSE Members to join us as we will have Michael Redmond, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Prince Edward Island and other guest speakers. We as Islanders must now all stand together and fight the Conservative Agenda in Cutting jobs and much needed services across this Country. With the cuts already implemented to Service Canada Workers, Department of Veteran Affairs Workers and many more Civil Servant layoffs we the residents must now stand up and Stop Harper and the Conservatives.

We will be having this event at the Murphy's Centre in Charlottetown from 3:30-5:00 pm on Monday January 27, 2014 There will be refreshments, balloons for the kids and much more. If you wish to have a table set aside for some of your flyers , pamphlets or even to hand out some UPSE Bling lets us know and we will arrange that. Hope to see you all there as its time we Stop Harper and the Conservatives. Please distribute widely amongst your Membership.
