PEI Conservation Officers receive COVID Warrior Challenge Coins

April 1, 2021

The Honourable Bloyce Thompson, Minister of Justice & Public Safety, presented COVID Warrior Challenge Coins to provincial Conservation Officers for their important role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conservation Officers have been tasked as the primary enforcement agency for COVID compliance in Prince Edward Island in addition to their regular duties. They have done an exceptional job under these challenging circumstances by responding to 643 complaints, attending 754 residences, and 8 businesses since the pandemic started. They also have performed 1,145 random isolation checks across the province since mid December 2020.

Conservation Officers are ensuring that individuals are complying with self-isolation measures, groups are not exceeding personal and organized gathering restrictions, and businesses are operating with designated COVID measures in place. These officers have been busy keeping Islanders safe through their enforcement efforts which include education, warnings, and charges for failing to abide by Public Health Orders.

Conservation Officers have done and continue to do all this in addition to their regular enforcement duties which include environmental issues, ATV / Snowmobile enforcement, monitoring of fishing, hunting, and trapping activities, and many other provincial and federal pieces of legislation. PEI’s Conservation Officers deserve our thanks and appreciation for the important work they are doing in helping keep Islanders safe during this global COVID-19 pandemic.
